That's the scary part. I didn't know if I should smile, crack up, scream or run.

My! People have a way of coming and going so quickly here!

Basic Info
Name:Anita Blake
Bio
Anita Blake

Name: Anita Blake
Original canon: Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Novels
Age: 27
Race: Human with a cybernetic/alien implant that allows her to see/hear and sometimes speak to the dead
Physical description: Anita is only 5'2" but she's tough, and muscular. Dark long hair, pale skin, she's attractive, but she isn't the sort to care or to try and do anything about it. She has scars, many of them, and the first thing most people notice when they see her is her attitude.

Job: A former peacekeeper, Anita works as an investigator for a company, and consults to the peacekeepers.

Wealth: Her family is wealthy, but Anita just makes enough to get by comfortably, and to make sure her crew does too. Her father has been known to give her money to assuage his guilt, but she hates taking it.

Living Situations:

Oublie: A one bedroom apartment, well maintained but spartan. Anita doesn't spend much time there, preferring to live mostly on her shuttle, the Circus.

Shuttle:
The Circus. A well cared for shuttle capable of having two people living on it comfortably, or four people in cramped quarters. She's painted it black with leopard spots on the bottom, she never was quite sure why. Its been altered, and has lots of strange hidden storage places. Usually filled with weapons.
Background

THE EARLY YEARS AND HOW SHE CAME TO SEE DEAD PEOPLE
Anita was the child of a love match. Anita's father was rather naiive, but wealthy, one of the old families, from Miranda. He met her mother on business on Oublie, and began to see her without his family's knowledge. When she became pregnant, he secretly married her, brining her home, thinking that his family would be pleased. They were not, but as her father was an only child they could not disown him. Instead they tried to make life unbearable for her mother. Even with this the couple were happy. Anita was born, and brought them more happiness, and even the family grew to warm to the child.

Then her mother died. An accident apparently, Anita and her mother were in the shuttle, Anita was asleep, but remembers her mother shouting at the shuttle operator, that they were too close. She remembers his dismissal of her, the next thing she remembers is holding her dead mother's hand. The only survivor, Anita was injured. Her father spared no expense medically, while she did recover, she required a cybernetic/alien implant in her brain that affected her optical and aural cortices. As with many of the alien technology they used, all of its propeties were not completely understood, but they worked, so they continued to use them.

At the funeral she saw what she thought was her mother's ghost, or soul, leave the body. This scared her, and when she told her father, he looked scared too. They never spoke of it again.

A year later, her pet dog died. There were few pets even on Miranda. She had loived him so much, especially after her mother left. Three days later when her father was entertaining work colleagues she heard her dog in the apartment. Anita tried to follow the noises, finally seeing her pet. She couldn't touch him though, and her cries brought her father and his guests to her. There was much confusion and in the end she couldn't believe that no one could see what she could. She couldn't understand what was happening..

She began to hear voices, which caused more consternation, and more fights. Fights between her father and his parents. Fights that kept happening. A weeks days later she was sent to oublie to live with her mother's family for a while, along with a nanny/tutor, to continue her lessons. Likely with enough money that they would accept her, but Anita didn't think about that until years later, when she was much more cynical.

Seven years old and abandoned on Oublie by her father, she was hurt. Her grandmother, whom she had only met twice that she could remember was warm and welcoming. Her cousins were not. It was here that she learned to fight, always small, she had to try twice as hard at first to be just as good. She won their respect through bloody noses and broken bones, and eventually they bonded. They still mocked her for having to take lessons, but when she taught them how do read, they were grateful, realising they had something up on the neighborhood kids. They almost became a gang then, and stayed that way for the next four years.

On her grandmother's part... Well there were other lessons too. Her mother's family were religious a mix of an earth religion called Catholocism though they didn't know that, and a sort of witchcraft, earth worship almost, all tied together through the years. Anita met a man who helped her to understand what she was hearing and seeing. How to listen to the ghosts that appeared, or to block them out. It helped her keep her sanity, to make her feel normal.

When she was eleven a holo came for her. They were rare here, no one could afford tech like that. It was from her father. He had remarried. She had a younger brother, and a younger sister on the way. She was to come home.

Her father's new wife was everything her mother was not. She was rich. She was cold, proper, and unloving. Blonde and tall, thin and willowy. It hurt Anita just to look at her, to think her father loved this woman after loving her mother, who was like her. Janice. Even the name was cold. She let Anita know from the first what she thought of her, that she thought she was a freak, and unwelcome. That she had not wanted to bring her home. That her father was the one who forced her too, but that she should be grateful of it, off that forsaken planet she called it. Anita riled at this, angry, but everytime she fought her father would come in, tell her to stop being so unreasonable, not to upset her stepmother. Janice would give her one of those smiles. The Ice Queen smiles Anita called them. She didn't realise til years later that she was being manipulated.

Anita continued in her lessons, and her training. Her father, seeing her have an interest in something hired a master to train her. She learned weaponry, fighting styles she had dreamed of, much less learning. She set up a small shrine, hidden in her room. She said her prayers quietly at night, whispering to the dead, to spirits.

In truth she simply bided her time. She visited her cousins each year, but the visits were strained at first, until she started to show them what the master had taught her. Then it was like old days. Soon they would be over, and she would be home, trying to hide scrapes and knife wounds. She always managed to hide them though, she was the unnoticed daughter.

AS AN ADULT, AND THE MOROI
It shocked her father when at 17 she wanted to train with the master at his academy. He agreed though, mostly because it was the only thing that she seemed to love, other then her visits to her mother's home.

At 20 she joined the peacekeepers. Stationed on Nanashi to begin with, they worked to find smugglers, those flouting the law. Anita was shocked at how corrupt they were, but said nothing. There she earned more scars, both in fights with those they were trying to arrest, and in other fights, trying to defend those who needed it. 22, and she was transferred to space duty. On a shuttle 24/7 3 weeks on, one week off. It was a duty that broke most people, but she loved it. Loved it more then she ever thought she would. Her whole team did, bonding together, letting herself get close to them like she'd not let herself get close to anyone other than her grandmother in years. They became a true team, and Anita found herself engaged to one of the men in the crew. Life seemed like it couldn't get better than that.

She had an apartment on Oublie at this point, where she spent her time off, and she saw her family on Miranda mainly on holidays, or when her father requested she came home. Her stepsister and brother looked up to her, and she did love them, but her stepmother, and the memories kept her away.

25 was the year it all started going to hell. Her fiance found out about her... well her other abilities, she hadn't meant to lie about them, but she'd just never found the time to talk about them either. They didn't break up, but things weren't the same between them either. Somehow she just wasn't human enough for him anymore. It became a wall between them. The death of her grandmother followed closely on the heels of that, a loss that stunned her more then she thought it would. Soon after there was another accident. The Moroi, rumoured blood drinking aliens who sold a particularly nasty drug concoctions had always been a bane of their existence. They weren't common, which was lucky, and no one had seen them ever drink blood, not and lived to tell about it anyway, but they were ruthless, and Anita and her crew were good at taking them down. Their ship rammed by smugglers, again, she was the only survivor. The people she'd let through the wall to get close to her, all dead. At the same time, if it weren't for the Moroians, she never would have lived. They saved her this time, and she owed them, those few, a grudging debt. They fascinated her as well, though she hated to admit it, as to her they seemed dead, and she seemed to have a connection to them. They seemed drawn to her as well. It didn't change her opinion though. If she found them and they were breaking the law, it was no hold barred.

AND WHERE SHE IS NOW
She took health leave at first. When it was time for her to go back, she resigned. She couldn't do it anymore. Begging a loan from her father (who gave it no strings attached) she joined an investigators office based on Oublie and Miranda. She used the money to get her license (bribes really) and to buy a shuttle. Her crew, well, she offered them little, a cut of the jobs they got, a place to sleep and food. Her work as a peacekeeper had been noticed though, and jobs were often thrown her way. Not enough to make her rich, but enough to keep the shuttle in good repair, and keep them well fed. To see them through the lean times. If a few extra bodies showed up here and there, well, who could criticise? Anita got results.
Personality
Anita is proud, almost to the point of cockiness. She's closed off emotionally, and she doesn't know when to let people in. She has a strong belief in right and wrong, but its her own version, definitely, and its full of contradicitions. Sometimes the things she has done (killing people, getting information any way she can) drive her almost mad, sometimes they bother her not at all. She is also stubborn, and generally convinced she's right. She's not very diplomatic, and she doesn't know when to shut up.

Her mother dying young and her father then dumping her, and remarrying has affected her strongly. She doesn't let people in, (the exception being her mother's family, her cousins now) and the one time she did let people in, she was again rejected, and then those people died. Its been a tough lesson, but it colours all of her interactions with other people.

Anita is a tough guy sort of character, but really, she's very vulnerable as well. She's had deep wounds, and she thinks she's healed them, but she's only put bandaids over them.

Some days I thought I was becoming a sociopath. Some days I thought I was already there

A lot of people don't get my jokes. If I was less secure, I'd think my jokes weren't funny. Naw
